Description

Delightful apple slices with a perfect blend of tart and sweet flavors, enveloped in a flaky crust, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour (Gluten-free flour blend can be used)
  • 0.25 cups Granulated Sugar (Brown sugar can be substituted)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt (Kosher or sea salt is ideal)
  • 0.75 cups Cold Unsalted Butter (Vegan butter or half shortening is a substitute)
  • 1 large Egg (Flax egg is a vegan alternative)
  • 0.25 cups Ice Water (Cold milk can be used for creamier dough)
  • 6 cups Sliced Apples (Granny Smith) (Mix in Honeycrisp for added sweetness)
  • 0.5 cups Brown Sugar (Honey can be an alternative)
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch (Can substitute with flour but results may vary)
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon (Ground nutmeg can also be added)
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice (Apple cider vinegar can work in a pinch)
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar (Reduce for a lighter glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (Almond milk or any dairy-free version works)
  • 2 tablespoons Melted Butter (Coconut oil is a dairy-free alternative)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the egg and ice water to the flour mixture; stir until the dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough in half, shape into disks, and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Peel and slice the apples, placing them in a large bowl.
  7. Mix in the brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt until the apples are evenly coated.
  8. Roll out one disk of dough on a floured surface to fit your baking dish.
  9. Place the rolled dough into the dish, pressing it gently to the edges.
  10. Pour the apple mixture onto the crust, ensuring an even distribution.
  11. Roll out the second disk of dough and place it over the apples. Seal the edges by crimping with a fork.
  12. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  13. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
  14. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
  15. Combine powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl to create a glaze. Drizzle over the slices just before serving.
  16. Enjoy the Bakery Apple Slices warm with a scoop of ice cream!

Notes
