Description

A traditional Irish dish perfect for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, featuring sausages served over creamy mashed potatoes with rich gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large sausages
  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the sausages over medium heat until browned and cooked through.
  3. In a pot, boil the potatoes until tender, then drain and mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté the onions until soft, then sprinkle with flour and stir to combine.
  5. Gradually add the beef broth, stirring until the gravy thickens.
  6. Serve the sausages over the mashed potatoes, topped with the onion gravy.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of different sausages.
  • Feel free to add herbs like thyme or rosemary to the gravy for extra flavor.
  • Leftover mashed potatoes can be used for shepherd’s pie.
