  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.
  7. Spread half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan.
  8. In a separate bowl, prepare the cookie dough by creaming together butter and sugars, then adding eggs and vanilla.
  9. Mix in flour, baking soda, and salt until combined, then fold in chocolate chips.
  10. Spread the cookie dough over the brownie layer in the pan.
  11. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining brownie batter on top of the cookie layer.
  12. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  13. Let cool before cutting into squares and serving.
