Ingredients

- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup red food coloring
- 1/4 cup green food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
- Divide the dough into three equal parts. Leave one part plain, and color one part with red food coloring and the other with green food coloring.
- Roll out each colored dough between two sheets of parchment paper into rectangles.
- Layer the colored doughs on top of each other, then roll them up tightly into a log.
- Chill the log in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Slice the log into 1/4 inch thick rounds and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
- For a festive touch, sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
- Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
- Feel free to experiment with different colors for different holidays.
