- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 8 oz dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- Chocolate shavings for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the truffle filling by heating the heavy cream in a saucepan until it just begins to simmer.
- Remove from heat and add the chopped dark chocolate, stirring until melted and smooth.
- Once the cake is cooled, slice it in half horizontally and spread the chocolate truffle filling between the layers.
- Top the cake with powdered sugar and chocolate shavings before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use high-quality dark chocolate.
- This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
