Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 8 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. While the cake is baking, prepare the truffle filling by heating the heavy cream in a saucepan until it just begins to simmer.
  6. Remove from heat and add the chopped dark chocolate, stirring until melted and smooth.
  7. Once the cake is cooled, slice it in half horizontally and spread the chocolate truffle filling between the layers.
  8. Top the cake with powdered sugar and chocolate shavings before serving.
