Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of bread (cubed)
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish. Place the cubed bread in the dish.
  2. Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl. Pour the mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring they are well soaked.
  3. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) the next morning.
  5. Mix together the brown sugar and additional cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle this mixture over the soaked bread.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden and set.
  7. Serve warm, optionally with syrup or fresh fruit.

Notes

For a richer taste, use stale bread and ensure the bread is well soaked overnight. Customize with nuts, fruit, or chocolate chips for added flavor.
