Description

Delicious and visually appealing French toast cups made with brioche, perfect for breakfast or brunch gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices brioche or challah bread
  • 3 large eggs
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter or cooking spray for greasing muffin tin
  • Maple syrup, powdered sugar, or berries for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a standard muffin tin with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Cut each slice of bread into quarters.
  3. Gently press 3 to 4 bread pieces into each muffin cup, forming a cup shape to hold the custard mixture.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  5. Slowly pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cups in the muffin tin, allowing it to soak in thoroughly.
  6. Lightly press down the bread pieces to make sure they absorb the custard completely, forming a compact cup shape.
  7. Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 22 to 25 minutes, or until the cups are puffed, golden brown, and set in the center.
  8. Remove the muffin tin from the oven and allow the French toast cups to cool slightly before carefully removing them from the tins.
  9. Serve the French toast cups warm, topped with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh berries as desired.

Notes

For a healthier option, consider using sugar substitutes for those watching their sugar intake.
