A simple and delicious recipe to make your own homemade pop tarts.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 1 cup fruit jam or filling of choice
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar (for icing)
- Milk (for icing)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the diced butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together.
- Divide the dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into rectangles and place half of them on a baking sheet.
- Place a spoonful of jam in the center of each rectangle on the baking sheet.
- Top with another rectangle of dough and seal the edges with a fork.
- Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool before icing with a mixture of powdered sugar and milk.
Notes
- Feel free to use any flavor of jam or filling you prefer.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
- These can be frozen before baking for later use.
