- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook until browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and sauté until tender.
- Add beef broth to the skillet and bring to a simmer.
- Return the patties to the skillet, cover, and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
- If desired, mix cornstarch with a little water and stir into the broth to thicken the sauce.
- Serve the Salisbury steak with the mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes or rice.
Notes
- For added flavor, you can include garlic powder or onion powder in the beef mixture.
- Feel free to substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
