A delicious and hearty recipe for homemade Salisbury steak, perfect for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into oval patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook until browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and sauté until tender.
  6. Add beef broth to the skillet and bring to a simmer.
  7. Return the patties to the skillet, cover, and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
  8. If desired, mix cornstarch with a little water and stir into the broth to thicken the sauce.
  9. Serve the Salisbury steak with the mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can include garlic powder or onion powder in the beef mixture.
  • Feel free to substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed vegetables or a side salad.
