A delightful and modern take on the traditional green bean casserole.

- 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- 1 cup crispy fried onions
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Blanch the green beans in boiling water for 3-4 minutes, then drain and set aside.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the onions and mushrooms until soft.
- Add the heavy cream, salt, and pepper to the skillet, stirring to combine.
- In a large bowl, mix the green beans with the cream mixture and half of the Gruyère cheese.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and top with the remaining Gruyère cheese and crispy fried onions.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
Notes
- For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half for heavy cream.
- Feel free to add garlic for extra flavor.
- This dish can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving.
