Description

A cozy and moist cake made with tart apples and served with a luscious custard sauce, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2-3 cups peeled and sliced apples (e.g., Granny Smith)
  • For the Custard Sauce:
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  2. Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy in another bowl. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk. Fold in the apples gently.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Heat milk in a saucepan for the custard sauce. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until well blended. Add cornstarch and mix.
  7. Whisk in hot milk gradually, then return the mixture to the saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  8. Stir in vanilla extract. Serve the cake warm with custard sauce drizzled on top.

Notes

Make sure your butter is softened for a smoother batter. Use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor profile.
