- 4 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
- Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl.
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy in another bowl. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk. Fold in the apples gently.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Heat milk in a saucepan for the custard sauce. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until well blended. Add cornstarch and mix.
- Whisk in hot milk gradually, then return the mixture to the saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Stir in vanilla extract. Serve the cake warm with custard sauce drizzled on top.
Notes
Make sure your butter is softened for a smoother batter. Use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor profile.
