- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour, rolled oats, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the brown sugar and melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix well.
- Gradually stir in the buttermilk until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough gently on a floured surface for a few minutes.
- Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet.
- Cut a cross on the top of the loaf to allow it to rise.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- Let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
- For a nuttier flavor, add seeds such as sunflower or pumpkin seeds.
- Store the bread in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
