Description

A delicious and hearty breakfast casserole inspired by the classic Monte Cristo sandwich, perfect for brunch gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 8 slices of bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup diced ham
  • 1 cup diced turkey
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. Layer half of the bread slices in the bottom of the dish.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, salt, and pepper.
  5. Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread.
  6. Sprinkle half of the cheese, ham, and turkey over the bread.
  7. Repeat the layers with the remaining bread, egg mixture, cheese, ham, and turkey.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • For a sweeter version, add a layer of jam or preserves between the layers.
  • This casserole can be prepared the night before and baked in the morning.
