A delicious and hearty breakfast casserole inspired by the classic Monte Cristo sandwich, perfect for brunch gatherings.
Ingredients

- 8 slices of bread
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 1 cup diced ham
- 1 cup diced turkey
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Layer half of the bread slices in the bottom of the dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, salt, and pepper.
- Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread.
- Sprinkle half of the cheese, ham, and turkey over the bread.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining bread, egg mixture, cheese, ham, and turkey.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter version, add a layer of jam or preserves between the layers.
- This casserole can be prepared the night before and baked in the morning.
