Ingredients

- 2 cups basmati rice
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 cup slivered almonds
- 1/2 cup pistachios, shelled
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup dried apricots, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon saffron threads
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil and add the rinsed rice and salt.
- Cook the rice for about 10-12 minutes until tender, then drain and set aside.
- In a small bowl, steep the saffron threads in orange juice for about 10 minutes.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add the almonds, pistachios, raisins, and dried apricots. Sauté for 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked rice to the skillet and gently mix in the saffron mixture and cinnamon.
- Cover and let the rice steam on low heat for an additional 10 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, substitute butter with olive oil.
- Feel free to add other dried fruits like cranberries or figs.
- Serve with grilled meats or as a standalone dish.
