- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1 egg, beaten
- Green food coloring
- Coarse sea salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and salt. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour to the yeast mixture and knead until smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and shape them into shamrock shapes.
- Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel with beaten egg mixed with green food coloring and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter pretzel, consider adding a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar after baking.
- These pretzels can be served with mustard or cheese dip.
