Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Green food coloring
  • Coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and salt. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour to the yeast mixture and knead until smooth.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. In a pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
  6. Divide the dough into small pieces and shape them into shamrock shapes.
  7. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the baking sheet.
  8. Brush each pretzel with beaten egg mixed with green food coloring and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let cool before serving.

  • For a sweeter pretzel, consider adding a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar after baking.
