Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg until well combined.
- Dip each piece of chicken into the buttermilk mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
- Coat the chicken in the flour mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Place the coated chicken on a wire rack and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 12-15 minutes per batch.
- Remove the chicken and drain on paper towels before serving.
Notes
- For extra crunch, double dip the chicken in the buttermilk and flour mixture.
- Letting the chicken rest before frying helps the batter stick better.
