Description

A classic Southern dish made with rice, ground meat, and spices, perfect for a hearty meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 1 pound ground beef or pork
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground meat over medium heat until fully cooked.
  2. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic to the skillet and sauté until the vegetables are tender.
  3. Stir in the Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add the rice to the skillet and mix well with the meat and vegetables.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and liquid is absorbed.
  7. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños or hot sauce.
  • This dish can be made ahead of time and reheated.
  • Serve with cornbread for a complete Southern meal.
