Description

A delicious and spicy twist on traditional bagels, perfect for springtime breakfasts.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced jalapeños (fresh or pickled)
  • 1 tablespoon everything bagel seasoning (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture, and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Incorporate the shredded cheddar cheese and diced jalapeños into the dough.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  7. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape each piece into a bagel.
  8. Boil the bagels in the water for 1-2 minutes on each side, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
  9. Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning on top if desired.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
