  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, flour, salt, and almond extract to the butter mixture; mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread sliced almonds on top.
  8. Fold the dough over to create a log shape and place it on a baking sheet.
  9. Brush the top with beaten egg.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Let it cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a sweeter kringle, add a glaze made of powdered sugar and milk on top.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
