Description

A delightful fusion of warm caramelized bananas and rich vanilla ice cream, perfect for celebrations and cozy family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter
  • ⅓ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup dark rum
  • 2 medium bananas (sliced lengthwise, then cut in quarters)
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium-sized skillet over medium-low heat.
  2. Add the brown sugar and whisk until it dissolves. This will take about 3 minutes.
  3. Add the vanilla extract, cinnamon, and rum.
  4. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the mixture starts to thicken.
  5. While the sauce cooks, slice the bananas.
  6. When the butter/sugar mixture begins to bubble, reduce the heat to low and add the bananas to the pan.
  7. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Remove the pan from heat, stir in walnuts, then let the mixture cool a bit to thicken.
  9. Portion ½ cup of vanilla ice cream into 4 dessert bowls.
  10. Divide the bananas foster equally between the four bowls and serve immediately.

Notes

For a boozy touch, feel free to add a splash more rum, but do so cautiously. Walnuts are optional for a nut-free version.
