Description

Delightful mini pastry treats filled with sweet and tart cherry filling, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 68 tbsp ice water
  • 1 ½ cups cherry pie filling
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sugar, optional, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, salt, and sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add cold, cubed butter and cut it into the dry ingredients until the texture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add ice water, mixing with a fork until the dough just comes together.
  4. Divide the dough into two disks, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Prepare the filling by mixing cherry pie filling with cornstarch.
  6. Roll out dough to about 1/8-inch thickness; cut into hearts using a cookie cutter.
  7. Place filling on half of the heart cutouts, cover with the remaining hearts, and crimp edges to seal.
  8. Brush tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.
  9. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden.
  10. Cool on a wire rack and serve.

Notes

Ensure butter is cold for a flakier crust. Experiment with different fillings for variety.
