Description
A creamy, luscious traditional Mexican custard dessert with a rich caramel layer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup sugar
- 6 large eggs
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Melt the sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until it turns golden brown. Quickly pour it into a round baking dish to form a caramel layer at the bottom.
- Combine eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract in a blender. Blend until smooth.
- Pour the mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
- Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan and fill the pan with water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish.
- Bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until set.
- Let it cool and then refrigerate for several hours before serving.
- Run a knife around the edges and invert onto a plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the flan.
Notes
Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother mix. Use a water bath for even baking to avoid cracks.
