Description

A comforting Mushroom and Swiss Burger that combines juicy beef, earthy mushrooms, and melted Swiss cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Tablespoon canola or vegetable oil
  • 2 Tablespoons salted butter
  • ½ yellow onion (sliced thin)
  • 8 ounces baby bella or white mushrooms (washed and sliced)
  • 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon water
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ teaspoons seasoning salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 Tablespoon canola or vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add 2 Tablespoons salted butter to the skillet.
  3. Stir in ½ yellow onion (sliced thin) and cook until the onions are soft and translucent.
  4. Add 8 ounces baby bella or white mushrooms (washed and sliced) to the skillet.
  5. Cook the mushrooms until they are tender and browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Whisk together 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard, 1 Tablespoon water, and 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce in a separate bowl.
  7. Pour the mixture over the sautéed mushrooms and onions.
  8. Season with ¼ teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper, then stir to combine.
  9. Remove the mushroom mixture from the skillet and set aside.
  10. In a bowl, combine 1 pound ground beef with 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 ½ teaspoons seasoning salt, ½ teaspoon pepper, and ½ teaspoon garlic powder.
  11. Form the mixture into four equal patties.
  12. Heat the skillet over medium-high heat and add the beef patties.
  13. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
  14. Top each patty with a slice of Swiss cheese and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.
  15. Toast the hamburger buns in the same skillet for extra flavor.
  16. Assemble your burgers by layering the beef patties topped with mushroom and onion mixture on the bottom bun.
  17. Cap with the top bun and serve immediately.

Notes

Experiment with additional toppings such as arugula or aioli for extra flavor.
