Description

A delightful twist on classic chili dogs, these Chili Dog Jalapeño Poppers combine cheesy goodness with the heat of jalapeños for a crowd-pleasing snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 large jalapeños
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup shredded Colby Jack cheese (or sharp cheddar)
  • 1 cup chili (thick, bean-less style recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon BBQ seasoning
  • 16 lil’ smokies sausages
  • 1 tube refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 count)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Prep the jalapeños: Slice about half an inch off the stem and bottom tip. Cut each jalapeño in half lengthwise. Use a small spoon to scrape out the seeds and membranes. Tip: Wear gloves to avoid skin irritation.
  2. Mix the chili cheese filling: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded Colby Jack cheese, chili, and BBQ seasoning. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  3. Fill and stuff: Spoon the chili cheese mixture into each jalapeño half. Gently press one lil’ smokie sausage into the center of the filling in each pepper.
  4. Wrap in dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough. Cut each of the 8 large triangles in half lengthwise to create 16 smaller pieces. Gently stretch and wrap one piece of dough around each filled jalapeño, covering the filling but leaving the ends of the pepper visible.
  5. Brush with butter: Brush each wrapped popper with melted butter for a golden, crispy finish.
  6. To cook in a smoker: Preheat smoker. Smoke at 225°F for 30 minutes to absorb flavor. Then, increase the heat to 350°F and cook for another 20-30 minutes, until the crescent dough is golden brown and fully cooked.
  7. To cook in an oven: Preheat oven to 350°F. Place poppers on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20-30 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  8. To cook in an air fryer: Preheat air fryer to 350-375°F. Place poppers in a single layer in the basket and cook for 10-15 minutes, checking frequently until golden brown.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for enhanced flavor. Feel free to customize the cheese and spices to your liking.
