I’m James M. Murray—a photographer with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, 15+ years of experience, and an unshakable love for telling stories through images. My journey began as a teenager in upstate New York, taking black-and-white portraits in my parents’ garage with a borrowed film camera. I didn’t know it then, but I was already chasing light—the kind that transforms the ordinary into something unforgettable.
The Path That Led Me Here
After graduating, I worked in commercial and editorial photography, capturing everything from high-fashion spreads to behind-the-scenes moments on bustling sets. But it was food photography that stole my heart. The textures, the steam rising from a freshly baked loaf, the way colors tell their own story—these details felt alive to me.
I now specialize in natural-light food photography, combining technical precision with the artistry of capturing a meal’s personality. My work has been featured in cookbooks, online publications, and media campaigns, each project an opportunity to invite the viewer into the moment.
